From 1 May, Queensland open homes will resume as some restrictions have been eased in the real estate sector, allowing Queensland house hunters to attend open home inspections. While in-room auctions and traditional mass open homes are still banned under the Covid-19 social distancing restrictions, some real estate activities have been given the green light. 

Open home inspections

While private home inspections can still take place for those concerned about the spread of the Coronavirus, as of 1 May, Queensland open home inspections can resume. Inspections with a maximum number of six people, including the real estate agent, are allowed to take place. Social distancing guidelines still apply inside the property, which means that only one person per four square metres is permissible.

As per the recommendation by the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ), where an open inspection is advertised to attract more prospective buyers, we will require a second real estate agent to monitor and manage social distancing from outside the property and limit the number of people entering the house at one time. We will also maintain strict hygiene protocols. 

REIQ chief executive, Antonia Mercorella, clarified the new rules and social distancing guidelines in a Facebook post and explained that anyone who felt unwell would be told to stay away and viewing parties would be asked not to touch anything.

Auctions restrictions still not eased

Auctions can still take place, however in room and in person auctions are still prohibited. Online auctions and over the phone auctions are still permissible.
